Buying your first saddle hunting setup can feel overwhelming. With so many saddles, platforms, ropes, climbing methods, and accessories, it's hard to know where to start.
We've broken the process into simple steps so you can confidently build a saddle hunting system that fits your hunting style and your budget.

The Right Size is Key
Comfort isn’t optional—it’s everything. Build your tree saddle setup the right way by choosing a saddle designed to adjust to you. More adjustability means a better fit, less fatigue, and longer, more comfortable sits. Start with the right size: Regular (28"–36" waist) or XL (38"+ waist).

Step #2 Ropes
Your Linemans & Tether
Two ropes, two critical roles. Your lineman’s rope gives you hands-free stability as you climb, and your tether is what you attach to the bridge of your saddle during the hunt. Smaller diameter ropes are lighter and easier to pack, but don’t worry—they maintain the same strength rating you can rely on. ( If you added a saddle "Kit" to your cart in Step #1, you can skip this step. They will be included )

Step #3 Climbing Sticks
Lightweight is your Friend
Efficiency starts with your climbing system. Lightweight sticks keep your pack manageable and your climb easier. With four sticks you’ll reach about 18', and aiders can take you even higher. Don’t overlook a quality attachment system—it makes attaching your sticks to the tree simple and quiet.

Step #4 Platform
Your Home Base
Your platform is your foundation at height. A lightweight design makes the hike in easier, while a slim profile packs down tight without adding bulk. The good news—most options perform well, so you really can’t go wrong. If you wear larger than a size 10 boot, consider a bigger platform for added comfort and stability.

Step #5 Backpack
Go in Light. Come out Heavy
Your pack ties everything together. Go simple and lightweight if you carry minimal gear, or choose a framed pack if you plan to pack out game. Look for modular options—MOLLE loops, compression straps, or platform pockets—so you can customize your setup as your needs change.

The right accessories fine-tune your setup. Gear straps and bow hangers keep everything organized and within reach. Retractable bow ropes get your bow up in the tree without tangles. Ropeman ascenders replace traditional prusik knots for fast, one-handed adjustments on your lineman’s rope and tether. Stealth strips help silence sticks and platforms for a quieter climb.
